The Story of .BIZ

Neustar is the registry of the .BIZ extension since the introduction of the extension in 2001.
.BIZ extension is intended for bona fide business or commercial use. This is why it’s a phonetic spelling of the first syllable of business. Anyone can register a .BIZ domain name without legal or geographic qualification.
When they first opened the extension to the public, .BIZ registry didn’t implement a sunrise or landrush period, unlike other newly introduced generic domain extensions. Instead, they used a procedure named Startup Trademark Opposition Policy (STOP) whereby trademark owners can claim their intellectual properties and challenge eventual registrants.
As of May 2020, .BIZ is one of the most registered generic domain extensions (gTLDs) with more than 1.6 million registered domain names.
